Germany Road Trip 2025 ✈ Part 5: Cologne

Continuing with our 'Making Memories with Moms' series since 2022, we are back with another trip with our moms this year. This time, our destination was Europe - Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein. We kicked off our trip in Germany, and drove around the entire country in 10 days covering a total distance of 2856 kms (1775 miles), and continued our journey in Switzerland by trains. This was a hectic trip but we are so thankful for the opportunity to enjoy all the amazing places and sceneries with our moms, making memories that will last for a long time.

12 May 2025 (Mon): Berlin - Cologne (589.5 km)

Started the day at 7.30am with free breakfast at the hotel. No sleeping in on this bootcamp tour...lol!

Breakfast options at Holiday Inn Express Berlin City Center was the best so far.

Today was a long driving day as we were driving across Germany from east to west. 6.5 hours from Berlin to Cologne. Not all rest stops have free toilet but this one was free and pretty clean. There were so many trucks on the Autobahn. In Germany, trucks must stay in the right lane when traffic is slow and stationary.

After a whole day of driving, we finally made it to Cologne at 3.40pm. Parked at Contipark Tiefgarage Am Dom, which was conveniently located right below the Cologne Cathedral.

ABC #6 - Cologne Catheral is the tallest twin-spired church in the world, the second tallest church in Europe. Notice the white and yellow flags. We were there when the new Pope was elected so the Catholic Churches had the Vatican flag out.

Impressive interior with stained glass windows. I was surprised that all catherals in Germany had free entrance.

Early dinner at 5pm at Tunnes and Schal which was located in Cologne old market before heading back to our hotel.

Checked in to Holiday Inn Express Cologne - Troisdorf at 7pm. Booked this stay for 16,000 IHG points per room.

Next stop...Luxembourg and Trier!
