Continuing with our 'Making Memories with Moms' series since 2022, we are back with another trip with our moms this year. This time, our destination was Europe - Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein. We kicked off our trip in Germany, and drove around the entire country in 10 days covering a total distance of 2856 kms (1775 miles), and continued our journey in Switzerland by trains. This was a hectic trip but we are so thankful for the opportunity to enjoy all the amazing places and sceneries with our moms, making memories that will last for a long time.

20 May 2025 (Tues): Lungern - Brienz
After spending the first half of our morning in Lungern, we arrived Brienz at 11am and headed straight to the Brienz Rothorn Bahn station to get our tickets for the 11.45am train. This train was included in the Berner Oberland Pass so we just had to get our tikets from the ticket counter.
We thought we were too early but our timing was good because it took some time to get our tickets, and by the time we were done, the train had arrived and we were able to board early to secure better seats (i.e. the left side of the train heading uphill, looking back towards Brienzersee).
The Brienz Rothorn Bahn is a 125-year old steam-powered cogwheel train. The open-air train offers breathtaking views of Lake Brienz and the surrounding mountains, but the journey was slow and noisy.
The journey up to Planalp middle station took about 25 minutes. It was still early in the season so the 2nd part of the train to Rothorn Kulm wasn't opened yet.
We had about 45 minutes in Planalp station so we walked to the nearby village to take photos and still had plenty of time to spare.
Took the train down to Brienz at 1pm. We could see the clouds rolling in as we made our way downhill. The MeteoSwiss app weather forecast was very accurate.
It start drizzling when we got off the steam train, but we continued strolling around Brienz village in the rain. Rain doesn't stop this 'bootcamp'...lol!
Quick photo stop at Brunngasse. Brunngasse was voted as Europe's most beautiful street. The fabled Brunngasses is lined by houses from the 18th century and the curving alley is dotted with stout wooden chalets decorated with abundant flowers.
Lake Brienz looking mystical with the mist. The waters are so blue. Fortunately, the rain wasn't too heavy so we were able to stroll around Brienz for about an hour before boarding the 2.30pm boat to Isetwald.
21 May 2025 (Wed): Isetwald - Brienz
It was raining during our BLS cruise ride from Brienz to Isetwald the day before. Since the BLS cruise is included in the Berner Oberland Pass, mom and I decided to get on the cruise again the next day from Isetwald to Brienz with better weather.
Got a better view of Giessbach Falls and Grandhotel Giessbach without the rain this time.
It was a cloudy day but at least it wasn't raining during the boat ride.
We arrived Brienz at 5.20pm and it started raining again so we decided to call it a day and took the train back to Wilderswil.
