Continuing with our 'Making Memories with Moms' series since 2022, we are back with another trip with our moms this year. This time, our destination was Europe - Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein. We kicked off our trip in Germany, and drove around the entire country in 10 days covering a total distance of 2856 kms (1775 miles), and continued our journey in Switzerland by trains. This was a hectic trip but we are so thankful for the opportunity to enjoy all the amazing places and sceneries with our moms, making memories that will last for a long time.
10-Days Road Trip Around Germany, Luxembourg & Liechtenstein
16 May 2025 (Fri): Ringsheim - Freiburg im Breisgau - Black Forest - Singen (212.9 km)
Started our day at 8.30am with another HIX free breakfast at Holiday Inn Express Ringsheim.
Departed our hotel at 10am and arrived Freiburg Freiburg im Breisgau at 10.30am.
We are driving through Black Forest today so of course we couldn't miss trying the iconic Black Forest cake at this local cafe - Cafe Schmidt. This decadent dessert features layers of chocolate sponge cake, cherries, whipped cream, and cherry brandy, topped with chocolate shavings and cherries - a delicious taste of the region's heritage.
It was hard doing the itinerary for Black Forest because it was a whole region with no particularly interesting stops...so we juts randomly drove and made random stops along the way.
Quick photo stops at Ibach - a quiet small town with rolling hills and Sankt Blasien - a village dominated by a giant dome of a baroque monastery, all snuggled away in a valley.
We took our time to drive around this region from 10am to 3.30am with random stops...that meant plenty of nap time for the moms.
Beautiful canola fields. We enjoy road trips because we enjoy the journey, no just the destinations. :)
Stop at Edeka at 3.30pm to buy dinner and drinks before going to our hotel. This Edeka had an entire separate entrance just for drinks.
Checked into Holiday Inn Express Singen at 4.30pm. Booked this stay for 16,000 IHG points/room. 5pm dinner in our hotel room. Edeka had pretty good variety of ready-made food.
Next stop...Liechtenstein!
