Germany Road Trip 2025 ✈ Part 10: Liechtenstein

Continuing with our 'Making Memories with Moms' series since 2022, we are back with another trip with our moms this year. This time, our destination was Europe - Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein. We kicked off our trip in Germany, and drove around the entire country in 10 days covering a total distance of 2856 kms (1775 miles), and continued our journey in Switzerland by trains. This was a hectic trip but we are so thankful for the opportunity to enjoy all the amazing places and sceneries with our moms, making memories that will last for a long time.

10-Days Road Trip Around Germany, Luxembourg & Liechtenstein

17 May 2025 (Sat): Ringsheim - Bregenz - Liechtenstein - Friedrichshafen (260.9 km)

Started our final full day in Germany with free breakfast at 7.40am.

Checked out of Holiday Inn Express Singen at 8.30am. First thing on the agenda was to return our rental car and pick up another one. We made separate rental car booking for the last day to utilize my National free rental car day.

Drove along Lake Constance with views of vineyards and alps for the 1-hour journey from Singen to Friedrichshafen Airport.

Arrived Friedrichshafen Airport (FDH) at 9.40am. This airport was deserted...lol! We were returning our Enterprise rental car and picking up another one from National, which were both managed by the same staff. She was nice and helpful enough to let us keep the same vehicle while checking us out and in again to complete the paperwork.

Continued our journey after completing the paperwork for the rental car at 10.45am. We opted to cross the 'border' into Austria to get to Liechtenstein (instead of Switzerland) as the toll for Austria was cheaper. We paid €9.30 for the 1-day Austria Digital Vignette.

Arrived Seebühne Bregenz in Austria at 11.30am. Quick photo stop at this opera house which was used in the filming of James Bond film "Quantum of Solace".

Crossed another border into Liechtenstein...hopping through 3 countries today. Yes, I intentionally added a visit to Liechtenstein for my country count (country #53). Liechtenstein is a 25km long principality between Austria and Switzerland.

Arrived Vaduz at 1pm and our first stop was a 20min hike to the Aussichtsplattform Walderlebnispfad (viewing platform). Successfully completed another 15 min hike on this travel 'bootcamp'...lol!

View of Liechtenstein and Switzerland across the river.

Another quick photo stop at Vaduz Castle. We could see the dark clouds rolling in.

Wrapped up our visit of Liechtenstein at 2.15pm and headed back to Germany. Today's driving route across 3 countries: Germany - Austria - Liechtenstein - Austria - Germany. Welcome to Europe whre Porsche and Mercedes are used as taxis...lol!

Stocked up on our last grocery stop in Germany at REWE before entering expensive Switzerland tomorrow. Successfully checked off all main grocery stores in Germany...Aldi, Lidl, Edeka, REWE. :)

Checked into our accommodation in Friedrichshafen - Ferienhof Spocker at 4.30pm.

Booked a 2-bedroom apartment at this cute farm house for €145 ($155) for our final night in Germany. Glad I found this place on booking.com.

This place was very nice and had a full kitchen and was equipped with all sorts of kitchen amenities.

Utilized the kitchen to make a healthy dinner. We were also able to use the washer an dryer to do few loads of laundry.

The best part of this stay was the very hospitable owners...Stefan and Sabine. Stefan treated us with a few beers and we had a good conversation. He even video called his son who was in Atlant to introduce his son.

They also had go-karts for kids and adults...of course we've gotta try it out...lol!

This place is perfect for kids. They had rabbits, chickens, peacock, goats and horses. They also produces hops (for beers) and makes their own beer.

18 May 2025 (Sun): Friedrichshafen - Zurich

Checked out at 8.10am to head back to Friedrichshafen Airport to return our rental car.

Thank you Ford Focus for taking us around Germany for the past 10 days! The rental car office was closed on Sunday so we just dropped off the keys after praking the car.

We dropped off the moms (and our bags) at the bus station before returning the rental car at the airport, and opted to walk 55 minutes from the airport to the bus station coz we didn't want to wait for the bus...lol!

Took the 10.50am Flixbus from Friedrichshafen to Zurich. The 2.5 hours journey costs €6.75 ($7.37) per person.

What I didn't know when booking this bus was that it comes with a ferry ride across Lake Constance. I was surprised two buses could fit onto the ferry.

The ferry ride took about 20 minutes and we were able to get off the bus to take photos.

Crossing the Germany/Switzerland border. Since Switzerland is not part of the EU, we had to go through immigration here. The immigration officers came onto our bus to check our passports.

Sneak peek of Switzerland's scenery for the 2nd half of our trip.

Next stop...Switzerland!
