Thirty days, two cruises, 2530 miles. Spent the whole month of November 2025 road-tripping around Southeast USA and cruising to Mexico and the Caribbean. Kicked off our trip celebrating Halloween with hubby’s cousin in Newnan (Georgia) before making our way to Tampa (Florida) for a Margaritaville cruise to Mexico and Western Caribbean. After a week on the sea, we continued our journey driving across Florida and spent the week visiting Ft. Lauderdale, Key West and Miami, before a Holland America cruise to Eastern Caribbean. Wrapped up our trip driving along the coast to visit Savannah (Georgia) and Charleston (South Carolina). Grateful for the opportunity to explore so many different places in one month and thankful for the beautiful weather throughout our trip.
28 Nov 2026 (Fri): Fort Lauderdale - Savannah
After disembarking our Holland America cruise, we departed Fort Lauderdale at 10.30am and started our 7.5 hour drive to Savannah, Georgia. I have not been to Savannah before so we decided to make a detour to Savannah and Charleston before making our way back to Alabama. Thanks to Barbara for suggesting the stretch of A1A scenic highway that we could take for ocean views (instead of driving the whole stretch).
Made it to Hyatt Place Savannah Airport at 6pm. Booked this 1-night stay for 8,000 Hyatt points.
I didn't know that there is an outlet mall located just 5 min from the hotel so I decided to go to the outlet mall after dropping our luggage for some last minute Black Friday shopping.
29 Nov 2026 (Sat): Savannah - Charleston
Free hotel breakfast at 8am.
Started our morning at 9am walking around Savannah. It was so quiet and tranquil.
Savannah is known for its historic district with cobblestone squares, antebellum architecture, and Spanish moss-draped oak trees, offering a blend of Southern charm.
Chippewa Square in Savannah is a filming location for Forrest Gump. We spent about 1.5 hours walking around and wrapped up our visit in Savannah at 10.15am.
Drove about 2.5 hours from Savannah and made it to Charleston around 1pm.
Charleston is a historic port city known for its rich history, Southern charm, and coastal beauty. I haven't been to South Carolina so this is a new US state for me to visit.
We spent about an hour walking around and decided to head to the hotel.
Found another outlet mall close to our hotel so we decided to make a quick shopping stop before going to the hotel. Got pretty good deals at Nike, Adidas and Under Armour.
Checked into our hotel, Hyatt Place North Charleston, at 4.30pm and rested for the rest of the evening. Booked this 1-night stay for 5,000 Hyatt points.
30 Nov 2026 (Sun): Charleston - Huntsville
Had free breakfast at the hotel and checked out at 8am to begin our 8.5 hour drive home.
