Continuing with our 'Making Memories with Moms' series since 2022, we are back with another trip with our moms this year. This time, our destination was Europe - Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein. We kicked off our trip in Germany, and drove around the entire country in 10 days covering a total distance of 2856 kms (1775 miles), and continued our journey in Switzerland by trains. This was a hectic trip but we are so thankful for the opportunity to enjoy all the amazing places and sceneries with our moms, making memories that will last for a long time.

14 May 2025 (Tues): Trier - Beilstein - Cochem - Eltz Castle - Bacharach - St. Goar (194 km)
Started our day at 6.30am with another free HIX breakfast. The wake up call for this 'bootcamp' keeps getting earlier...lol!!
Checked out of Holiday Inn Express Trier at 7.30am and started our drive through wine region along Moselle river and Rhine river. So many vineyards along the way!
First stop of the day was this cute little town of Beilstein. The town was very quiet at 9am. Felt like we had the entire town to ourselves as there weren't any other people there!
Famous photo spot for Beilstein...such a quaint little town! Every nook in Beilstein is picturesue, and the buildings are either covered in flowers or grapevines.
2nd stop...Cochem at 9.45am. Good thing about starting the day early, we were able to find parking easily right next to Cochem town for €1.80. Saw the cars parked next to us getting tickets...whoopsie!
Main attraction in Cochem is the Cochem Castle. This unique castle sits atop Cochem providing beautiful views of the city and the Mosel River. Walked across Skagerak Bridge to take photos of the castle, town, and reflections on Mosel river.
After taking enough photos of Cochem Castle, we had a quick stroll in Cochem town before continuing our journey at 11am.
Stopped by the road to take photos of the canola fields. Love seeing all the canola fields as we drove around Germany.
Arrived our 3rd stop of the day at 11.50am...Eltz Castle. Parked at the visitor parking lot for €4 and walked 15 minutes through the woods to get to Eltz Castle. The old couples so cute.
The hike wasn't too bad and had a few vantage points as we got closer to this beautiful castle amongst the hill.
Hubby and MIL visited the castle for €14 each while mom and I waited outside when they were on the guided tour.
Burg Eltz never got destroyed or captured. Still owned by the same family as in the 12th century, it is one of only three castles in this part of Germany that survived to the present day completely unscathed.
Scenic drive along Rhine River with castles, vineyards, and charming villages. The Rhine Valley is the largest wine-producing region in Germany, and is known for Riesling (white wine).
Made it to our 4th and last stop for the day at 3.45pm. Bacharach is the another charming town located in the Rhine Valley. It's nestled between hills of Riesling vineyards and the Rhine River with fewer tourists and more peaceful streets.
Our 'bootcamp' came with a random hike through the vineyards up the Postentrum to see Bacharach town from above.
The moms did not expect this random hike...but to be fair it wasn't bad haha!
5pm dinner at Posthof Bacharach with a nice litte courtyard.
Quick stop at Aldi to get some beers and bread before heading back to the hotel.
Arrived our hotel - Weinhotel Landsknecht St. Goar at 6.40pm. Took a break from Holiday Inn Express and booked this hotel located right by the Rhine River for €147 ($154).
Booked a superior family room which turned out to be larger than we expected. The location was great with view of the Rhine River but the staff wasn't very nice. There was only one portable AC in the room, and it got a lil' hot in the room. We couldn't open the windows either because of bugs.
View from our room...Rhine River, castle, vineyards, ducks, boats, trains
Next stop...Heidelberg!
